george + Posted November 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got my M8 in early November 06. It worked - and works - fine so I never bothered sending it back to Solms. Are there others like this? Thanks for your input.
Advertisement Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Hi george +, Take a look here Any "unfixed" early M8-s?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gtmerideth Posted November 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 25, 2007 Mine hasn't as well. However, the battery system went bad and I sent it to NJ and asked that the recall work be done as well. g.

wparsonsgisnet Posted November 26, 2007 Share #4 Posted November 26, 2007 George, I got mine on Dec. 13, 2006. It works fine with the exception of the shutter problem that arose after a firmware update. Turning on requires the switch plus touching the shutter button. "Not Broke." Takes very nice pix, too. mike prevette Posted November 26, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 26, 2007 Just sent mine in middle of this month. Waiting now. Seemed like everytime I wanted to send it in, a trip came up. _mike
jobe Posted November 26, 2007 Share #6 Posted November 26, 2007 Bought my M8 Nov 06 Ser# 3101xxx. Finally sent it to NJ on 10/3/07. I've not received it back yet. I really miss that little camera. Just can't seem to break out the D2X. I did dust off the F3 and put 28,50 and 105 in a bag . Tomorrow I'll get a battery and some Tri X and see if I can find some truth. KJB Posted November 26, 2007 Share #7 Posted November 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Also, recently sent in my M8 bought in Nov2006. Heard from my dealer that it will be completely gutted out.
jobe Posted November 26, 2007 Share #8 Posted November 26, 2007 KJB Was your dealer any more specific re the "gutting out"? I think Mark Norton had a picture or two of the fix somewhere in this forum and it seemed to involve some pretty tricky soldering but unless they're doing something different now, I wouldn't describe that as gutting. Not trying to start an argument, just asking a question... Thanks Joe
mr_big Posted November 27, 2007 Share #9 Posted November 27, 2007 I got mine last November and have been hoping something would go wrong with it before the warranty lapses seeing that Leica has apparently isolated the cause of the sudden death thing. I got my wish last week when the the "pushing-the-shutter-to-turn-on-the-camera" problem cropped up. I'll continue to use it through the holidays and then send it in early January for its "total gutting."

I just hope it takes pictures as well as it did before the fix.
