DaveC706 Posted November 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently upgraded my Mac G5 to Leopard. Since the upgrade, when I import M8 raw files, some files do not import on first attempt. I have to eject my SD card, re-insert into the reader and import again. Usually 2 attempts will get all the images. I don't have this problem with my Canon files. Is anyone else experiencing this, or have any suggestions? Thanks/ Dave

Guest WPalank Posted November 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 25, 2007 Dave, Did you update to version 1.3? If not, go to Help>Updates.
stephengilbert Posted November 25, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 25, 2007 Dave, I've seen this behavior as well, and am using te latest upgrade of LR. Don't have any idea why it happens, but like you, I find that the second try gets the images in. Steve

neelin Posted November 25, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 25, 2007 Hmm...I thought it was just me. I have always disabled Adobe's SD card reader & have been using Phase One Media Reader from the C1 LE install. It too has been acting up (not recognizing the card, while I can still move the files with file/explorer), and I have just upgraded to LR 1.3 Sounds like the update is changing something behind the scenes about what's running in the background. orjanf Posted November 25, 2007 Share #6 Posted November 25, 2007 Using Leopard and LR1.3 I haven't noticed any problems once the card is mounted. I sometimes have to remove the card from the card reader and re-insert it to get it to mount. However this happened under Tiger and LR1.1 as well. dudedog Posted November 25, 2007 Share #8 Posted November 25, 2007 I'm using Leopard and LR1.3 on an 18 month old Intel MacBookPro and haven't seen this problem. But when I import, I add an additional step... After the card reader mounts on my desktop, I open the mounted image in the Finder, click on the DCIM Folder, and then drag the "Leica100" folder from the Finder to my desktop [which in other words copies all the images to my desktop]. I then import to LR1.3 from this "Leica100" folder on my desktop. This process takes a couple of minutes longer, but I have never had a problem with missing images or the import process "stalling" half way thru the process of downloading 185 images [which used to happen all the time in LR1.0]. Hope this helps...
Guest malland Posted November 25, 2007 Share #9 Posted November 25, 2007 I had this with LR1.2 after I installed Leopard but when I upgraded to LR1.3 the problem disappeared. —Mitch/Paris Mitch Alland's slideshow on Flickr
stephengilbert Posted November 25, 2007 Share #10 Posted November 25, 2007 This morning I filed a bug report with Adobe describing this problem. It might be useful if others did so as well. Thanks.
Daniel Ortego Posted November 25, 2007 Share #11 Posted November 25, 2007 Personally, I don’t believe there is much of anything that works well (yet) with Leopard. In fact, I don’t believe it’s any better than Vista’s growing problems. Based on other responders’ Aperture appears to be the short-term solution. DaveC706 Posted November 25, 2007 Author Share #12 Posted November 25, 2007 Thanks to all. I am running LR 1.3, but it's good to know this is not unique to my setup. By the way, I'm new to this forum and the M8, but I must say this group is so much more helpful and civilized than others I've read for years. Not only is the Leica an incredible machine, seems the enthusiasts are a different caliber as well. Thanks. Dave
rwfreund Posted November 25, 2007 Share #13 Posted November 25, 2007 Lightoom 1.3 on Leopard seems to be fine for my import procedure. 1) locate directory on card and then rename it to something meaningful to you 2) Copy it to an external drive or to the desktop if one is not immediately available 3) Lightroom import from disk and copy to new location 4) reformat card only when absolutely necessary to keep a backup copy of originals around as long as possible. Where I have problems with 1.3 is with printing with profiles. I don't know if this is leopard only but it is bad news. PS CS3 prints fine, so my usual course is available. -bob
