Leica Steve Posted January 28, 2024 Share #1 Posted January 28, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I’m fairly new to my Q3. Can somebody please explain the difference between tracking in AFs mode vs tracking is AFc mode? I know with face tracking the two modes work differently in that AFc will continuously focus on your subjects face as it moves around. But it seems like with regular tracking (not face), AFs and AFC work the same, meaning the tracked subject still stays in focus with a half shutter press. Thanks for your help. Advertisement Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 Hi Leica Steve, Take a look here Tracking in AFs vs AFc modes (not face/eye tracking).. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Chuck Albertson Posted January 28, 2024 Share #2 Posted January 28, 2024 When you switch to tracking AF mode, the camera automatically switches to AFc. P. 95 of the manual.
Leica Steve Posted January 29, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted January 29, 2024 Hi Chuck, thanks for your reply. I missed that last bit on page 95! That definitely answers the question. So tracking works the same in either AFs or AFc. It is interesting to note that this isn’t the case with face tracking. If using AFs and face tracking, a half press will not allow continuous focusing (obviously AFc will). Much appreciated, this was making me a little nuts. Miltz Posted January 29, 2024 Share #4 Posted January 29, 2024 What you are asking is standard on all cameras, not sure why it's driving you nuts.
Leica Steve Posted January 30, 2024 Author Share #5 Posted January 30, 2024 Not necessarily. My R5 has different ways to configure tracking. R5 non servo focus will lock on a spot but will not track that spot.
