Hey all

This is a sort of continuation of the thread on receiving the rental M8 from Rich at PhotoVillage.

Day 2, shoot that same black fleece vest with an IR filter. I know I've seen it online but the difference is HUGE. I'd need more IR's if I buy an M8.

Day 2 I was shooting again in low light, wide apertures, mixed color temps etc. Low rate of in focus shots. I blame that on me and the conditions. I haven't been using an RF camera at all for almost 2 years now, that plus a wide open 75 'lux and you get the out of focus picture. Or are the lenses to blame? I didn't want to turn this week into a test fest. I wanted to shoot.

Today, day 3 is Thanksgiving in the US. It is 60F here in Ct and sunny but early it was foggy and there was dew on everything so I went outside and shot in the yard. I used the CV 28 Ultron, 35 asph 'lux and the 75 'lux. I don't have an IR filter for the 75.

Far far better focus results with some real keepers. I may finally have some frames that make me really see what the M8 is all about. Really there were some where I missed focus. I have to say the 75mm framelines are really poor. Unbelievably loose. I may as well use 50mm framelines at greater distances.

All the lenses did well though. I did some front/on/back focus tests. Dare I say all the lenses focus well? I did these at @8' and as far as I could find an infinity tree branch.

I will try to post some results later today but with guests coming it may not be for awhile.

I will use the camera today to shoot my quests.

So far I'm not thrilled with ACR 4.3 color on auto or default, but all shooting before today was in really tough conditions temp wise. I had the camera set on cloudy, not auto today. I haven't looked at todays shots yet in ACR/CS3

I have to look at todays shots in C1 LE. No time yet.

I found the FAQ on posting photos but there was no sizes suggested. I think I should make a 72ppi and normal screen size version? Or does this site downsize by itself.

Forget the above, I found the size info in manage attachments

Hope to post later

Neil

Well, has it struck you yet? As for me and my new M8 & 28-cron, I’m still ironing out some latent defects. My brand new lens is off for replacement due to an improperly assembled accessory carrier and my M8 has already locked up on me once. I sure hope this isn’t a trend of things to come right out of the box. I have no regrets although I apparently rolled snake eyes with some bad luck. In any event, Happy T-Day and have a great time!

Regards,

Hey, my M8 locked up on me too, the first day, but solved by taking out the battery and inserting it again. Sean Reid writes about it, suspecting it to be a static energy issue. Anyway, I think it's like a blessing procedure of the M8; having a lockup ;)

So that worked but it looks a little softer here than I see it before I send it.

Here's another

If you shoot raw and process in the C1LE program that comes with the camera you will eliminate that red fringing.

The M8 is turds in JPEG, but puts out the best RAW files I've ever used. C1 is easy to use once you take a moment to learn it and your results will be better than you dreamed.

Best wishes

Dan

The not so anomaly of erratic power management appears to be part of the M8 culture for sure. Still, at the price point we pay, it can grind away at your senses.
