After upgrading SL2 to FW 6.0.0 the FOTOS app couldn’t see any images on the camera

I solved the problem myself but posting here in case it can help someone else.

After installing FW 6.0.0 to my SL2, when I connected my camera to FOTOS it couldn’t see any files. Message displayed was something like ‘Take a photo on your camera for it to be visible here’.

i tried various solutions but finally found the cause was the firmware update had restarted the file numbering and had created a second folder on the SD card where it was putting the new files. 
The app couldn’t see files in either folder.

The fix was to reformat the SD Card.
