fishblimp Posted November 21, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently picked up a CV 15mm lens for my M8. I also go the Milch adapter into which I put a UV/IR cut filter. Someone pointed out to me that in order to use a filter with the Milch adapter, it must be placed reversed, leaving the coated side of the filter exposed (away from the camera body). I did put the filter in, but I'm not really sure how to tell if it's reversed or not. All I know is that it screwed in and that the filter is a different color than I was used to and/or expecting (has a slight reddish color). Even though I took care in screwing in the filter (clean hands/environment), the Milch adapter and its tapered hood makes it a little difficult to get a good grip on the filter when screwing it in. As a result, a tiny fleck of ??? seems to have made its way onto the filter surface. How durable is this coating if, in fact, it *IS* the coated side that is exposed? Can I clean it and if so, how? I tried using a bulb blower but this fleck seems to be stuck. In fact, I'm hoping it *IS* a fleck and not a scratch. If it's a scratch, I really don't know how it happened because I didn't even touch the surface! Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Advertisement Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Hi fishblimp, Take a look here Cleaning/issues with UV/IR on CV 15mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gwelland Posted November 21, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 21, 2007 It's only a glass lens filter - not a piece of delicate soft material. Just clean either side as you would normally clean your lens and take normal care with use of cleaning fluid or other typical materials. If there's gunk stuck on then try the tried and tested blow on the filter with your breath and use a clean lens cloth, or use a lens brush, or Kodak cleaning paper etc. It's not rocket science. I'd lay off use of an emory board though ...
DaveB Posted November 21, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 21, 2007 Formula MC is good for filters. That with a wad of lens paper and a light touch won't dd any damage.
