BEG Posted December 21, 2023 Author Share #21 Posted December 21, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Stuart: Thanks for the good advice: "I think you should live with it unless it really bothers you or impacts your work. . . . A trip to Leica service is likely to take months to sort out. Life is too short." I'm pretty sure that's where I am going to end up. I appreciate your thoughtful response.
Advertisement Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 Hi BEG, Take a look here SL 35mm Summicron (Non-APO) ASPH Lens Question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Actually here in the Colorado Rockies in the winter snow chains can be a pretty nice addition on a sports car (or any car for that matter). Thanks for the great comments, which I completely agree with. The APO and the non-APO are different lenses with different features. Just pick the one that fits your need. BEG - I’m sorry that my question diverted the discussion away from your question about the focus ring. My interest in the non-APO 35 summicron-SL is exactly the same as yours - I want to sometimes use my SL as a Q substitute. I’ve been using it that way with my manual focus 35 summicron-m but there are times when I really want autofocus. Buying the 35 APO lens is almost as much as a new Q2. I’d rather add the Q2 function to my SL. So the non-APO seems to fit my need well. I’ve pixel peeped the images posted by the reviewers, and my conclusion is that the non-APO images on the SL look pretty darn good. The APO images are better, for sure, but they are also better than the images from the Q2 and Q3. So for a “Q substitute”, the non-APO 35 seems like the right way to go.
BEG Posted December 21, 2023 Author Share #24 Posted December 21, 2023 No worries. I have enjoyed the conversation. I'm also glad to know that both of our SL2/35 ASPH strategies seem to be working out nicely. Have fun!

I’ll let you know if there’s anything unusual with the focus ring. Edited December 24, 2023 by NightPix
BEG Posted December 24, 2023 Author Share #26 Posted December 24, 2023 Excellent. Please let me know how you like the new lens--both in its own right and as a substitute for the Q2/Q3.
