neils Posted November 21, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Last night was my first night with the M8 I have rented from Rich at Photovillage. This IS a plug for Rich. A complete in box (like you bought it) with cards/battery/software etc etc M8for a week for $350? Rent a $5K Nikon or Canon body and it wil be triple that for a weeks use. I've shot M's since @'80. My M6 has seen little use since I went digital. I never meant to go so completely digital as I don't do this for a living anymore but sadly I did. I've got film in the fridge so I may turn........ IR purples? Man I got that big time in the first 20 frames. OK I'm baptized. I was uncoded and unfiltered. I have a 39 and 46 filter and the mount from my 50 'cron and a Milich 28 CV mount are in the mail to me now so I'll I'll be able to use the camera properly. I thought the 28 and 50 would get a great deal of use and I wanted to be sure to do some of the weeks rental with the "proper" set up. So I'll be without filters and codes with the 35 'lux asph and the 75 lux. I can live with that for a week. I also found out I am very rusty at quick focusing a RF. My eyes have changed enough that the view through the 1.25X mag doesn't seem sharp as it does w/o. I think the mag is showing my age! The size and feel of this M8 is so familiar. You guys know all this so I'm not gushing on and on. I'm glad I've been lurking here chiming in now and then. This forum is a very good place to visit. Trying the camera was inevitable and if I didn't have a D3 to pay for in @3 weeks, well you know what would be happening. Neil Neil
Advertisement Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Hi neils, Take a look here First night with the M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
neils Posted November 21, 2007 Author Share #2 Posted November 21, 2007 ......oh. I guess until the coded stuff arrives there is no harm in shooting uncoded but with IR filters right? No purples but I gain corner color ( a different one) correct? Cornerfix is an option also in that case also. You know it gets confusing, coded, uncoded, with and without filters to remember all the combinations. I may be printing alot of B&W :-) Neil
Laki Posted November 21, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 21, 2007 i hope you will have a great time with the m8 and the test drive sounds like you're enjoying it already.
neils Posted November 21, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted November 21, 2007 Thanks Laki I am Question....... Uncoded lenses with IR filters. Set camera to "coding+IR" or just leave it set to "off". I think "off" to let the filter just filter and do its job. Corners could then "cornerfixed" right? Thanks Neil
Shootist Posted November 21, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 21, 2007 You could shoot Jpg B&W only until you get the mounts for the lenses and then again you can have a try at hand coding your lenses, worked for me on a couple and not on a couple of others but it's worth a try. Hope you like it enough to buy one, I do and did. Good shooting and happy holidays.

Thanks Neil i would set it to off and use the ir filter and then you could use cornefix. there wont be any vignetting correcting in this as far as i know and also if use a flash no lens information is transmitted to the flash then. Daniel Ortego Posted November 21, 2007 Share #7 Posted November 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I almost purchased a Nikon before opting for the M8. I know it would have been less trouble and less money although I was bent of the whole Leica thing’. I find the M8 viewfinder to be a bit fussy on my eyes too. I plan on picking up the corrective diopter so perhaps it will help. I’m really new so I’m still facing the costs of software, printer and the usual tag-along accessories. Dang, the M8 with one Leica lens set me back 9K even! Oh well, we only live once (I think). Regards,
mitchell Posted November 21, 2007 Share #8 Posted November 21, 2007 Diopters can be a real revelation. I use them and the view looks perfect. Best, Mitchell
barjohn Posted November 21, 2007 Share #9 Posted November 21, 2007 Megaperls makes a 1.35x magnifier with diopter correction if you can get them to sell you one.
afineman Posted November 21, 2007 Share #10 Posted November 21, 2007 You can always temporarily "self code" your lenses with a thick black sharpie. I do that for all but one of my lenses and it works well for a few weeks, then I need to reapply the sharpie. But it is easy to do. http://www.digital-leica.com/lens_codes/
