Hi everyone ,

I would like to hereby introduce a topic: books by authors who use the Leica S system - a census.

I can start by quoting 3 books by Joel Meyerowitz:

Provence, Lasting impressions(Sterling Signature)

Cezanne's objects (Damiani)
Morandi's objects (Damiani)

I hope it can be an interesting topic to explore here in the forum.

Best

Ciro

This issue 7 of the magazine S is actually equivalent to a monograph. Photo by Bruce Gilden

Bruce Gilden's photographic work is part of a Magnum project called "Postcards from America" which includes the works of other photographers. Below are links to the work of Alessandra Sanguinetti and Jim Goldberg.

Did they use the S? I visited Alessandra and Jim during my MFA, and Alessandra was using a GFX. So was Alec Soth. They had said that Fuji had given them cameras to use (or lent...not sure). At the time Fuji was trying get top tier photographers to use their gear, so I think they just distributed them to Magnum people (must be nice, lol). I think it worked with a lot of artists. They generally have enough budget strain to make Leica or Phase One possible but challenging, but they still appreciate the extra resolution and color fidelity of medium format.

As for books...Mine was done on the S2, primarily, along with a photo or two with the M9. There might be one or two with the S006, which I switched to in 2014, but I cannot remember if any of those made it into the book.

p.s. I don't really expect anyone to buy it, but there is a cart on the website and I have so much going on right now that I will have difficulty delivering until next year, so if anyone were interested, I would ask their patience. The book is about ten years old now, so I took it off Amazon...doubt it is in most stores, other than the museum of photography and national museum here.

Nice book Stuart! Very interesting project.

So S2 and S006 could work just fine with long exposure.

Yes they did use the S ( I guess the S2 at the time) just for this project.(Postcards from America) .Leica had given the camera to them . I would love to find the book for a reasonable price.

As you said Fujifilm did the same later. I know that around 10 years ago Alec Soth was using Hasselblad H . The book Songbook is made with this system and a strobe ( a la Weegee style). Of course most of his works are made with an 8x10 camera.
