Guy,

I did the update last week and it made no difference with Capture.

To date, it appears that Apple software is the way to go. I realize that Leica is a very small company although it’s hard to imagine they didn't have a beta version of Leopard in house to test with their premier camera, and associated software.

Regards,

It's not the fault of leica.

macosx work severals levels of language type (as C, C++, migrated C++ to Apple Framework). Manage native framework to have a native software who passes every update is a developer art. Leica, mainly, is a camera company not as adobe who is just a software company. I curious to know if japan softwares capture are on edge.

wow...i think that is the fastest response i have EVER gotten form any camera/back/software company...let's hope they will actually do something...like i said...a plug in for LR would be perfect:)

larry:i think most people use radio/IR transmitters anyway...the pc ports always wore out and cables are for tripping! plus: why destroy the great simple lines of the camera...

BTW leica responded almost immediately to my question , of course they where sleeping when I sent it but I woke up to there answer. There on top of it more than folks think sometimes.

did a little test myself....10.5 leica capture just crashes....tried to check the start with rosetta checkbox, did not work either......10.4.10 works perfectly...shooting into LR via auto import....

i don't see how adapting the software to 10.5 can be that hard.....

talked to leica NJ today and they said that the leica capture app was actually written by phase for them....so it is up to phase to provide an update? sounded strange, but i guess the guy was right.....but now i feel a little left between 2 chairs, leica says it is phase and i am sure phase will say talk to leica....

WOW that is VERY interesting! i had no idea phase wrote the software for them.

the useability of M8 tethering in its current state sort of reminds me when Phase FIRST introduced tethered shooting for the Canon 1Ds MKI. connections would often freeze/drop capture etc in C1 v3.x now the 1DsMKII is pretty rock solid in C1 (often more so than using phase backs that require back-shutter sync chords).........i can only hope phase will allow M8 tethered capturing straight from C1 3.7.8 and make it reliable?

I am going to send a note to Solms and see if we can get some update for Leopard than. Sounds like we are dead in the water.

Not totally dead... you can run Parallels and Windows. Then run the Win version if it runs any better. You can purchase an OEM version of Win XPpro SP2 from NewEgg for around $100. I think Parallels is around $60. Cheaper yet, you can run Bootcamp, which is included with Leopard (sitll need to buy Windows). However, this option requires that you reboot to switch operating systems. Parallels runs windows in a OSX window. One of the benefits of Apple going to Intel processors.

Now, I am going to speculate here, but Parallels allow you to set up a shared folder that both OSX and Windows can access. You may be able to start Windows and Leica Capture (win version) in Parallels and then have it dump the images to the common file. They should then be accessible for viewing in your Mac version of Lightroom or whatever. All running in concert. Have not tried this, so no guarantees, but sounds do-able.

well i guess i could also buy a PC....or i could just run 10.4 off a partition or an external HD and run leica capture on it until we have a fix for 10.5....which is what i am doing: i run 10.4.10 on an external (bootable) HD with leica capture installed on it and shoot directly into LR through a watched folder....works fine of course....

Ohhh... please do not buy a PC :o)

I made the suggestion of Parallels/Windows since people were also complaining of lock-ups / freezes with 10.4 as well (see previous posts). If (and I have no idea if true) the Windows version is more stable, then the Parallels path may indeed be a good one. Just a possible path.

just got off the phase forum and they say that the software was NOT written by phase...which makes sense, they could have just written tethered support into C1....anyway, i guess i will call leica again.....ongoing saga....

maybe leica NJ would not be the right people to talk to anyway? directly to germany?

  • 3 weeks later...
is anyone out there having problems with the capture one LE on 10.5 on mac?

i could not install it on mine.

and yes the leica software crashes, and since it is written by phase i wonder if C1 is also having that problem.

Using 10.5, it occasionally crashes or freezes. I've pretty much given up on C1 and I'm using Aperture instead.

i am using C1 pro and it works fine...i have heard that there are problems installing it on 10.5, but when performing an upgrade to 10.5 (and migrating apps over) there are no (or fewer) crashes.....the leica capture software is NOT written by phase...this was a misinformation i received from leica NJ and doublechecked with pase and leica....phase has nothing to do with the leica capture app.....and C1 will most definitely be upgraded to work with 10.5.....

i use lightroom exclusively, tried aperture and got too much noise, too many artifacts, very brittle "look"....i really wish aperture would work, maybe a future version will be better, but the conversions, the options and the output from LR make it the perfect all in one app for me......i wish LR could: shoot the m8 tethered, provide the loupe (just like aperture and bridge!) and provide the light table editing/resizing option...all in time i guess....
