Chazphoto Posted November 3, 2023 Share #1 Posted November 3, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, When I sold my M10-P, I noticed some faint lines on the top plate and concluded they were from mounting and detaching the Visoflex 020. I have not mounted it on the M10-R yet, except once very gingerly and have wondered whether there was any way of taping or rounding off the plastic edges to minimise the risk of marks? I'm planning on using the EVF a bit over winter, so am coming back to thinking about this. Seems to me that the leading corners or the R and L edges could all be to blame. Does anyone have any bright ideas? Is there a really good brand of tape that would be thin enough to still allow the EVF to fit and would slide over the black chrome finish smoothly (and without leaving sticky residue)? Does anyone know what you use to chamfer plastic? Thanks Chazphoto

Siriusone59 Posted November 3, 2023 Share #2 Posted November 3, 2023 After reading this I thought it a good idea to check mine. On my Visoflex 020 there is a good 1-1.5mm clearance between its base and the top of the hotshoe and top plate when mounted. I couldn't see any way that it would scratch. I did notice the 4 tiny screws in the base and wondered if possibly one could have loosened a bit and caused a problem.
mujk Posted November 5, 2023 Share #3 Posted November 5, 2023 I checked out mine as well. As @Siriusone59 noted, the clearance is large enough to prevent the Viso 020 from touching the top plate (and the shutter speed dial on the other side). Maybe there is a manufacturing problem with your Viso making the side protrude downwards more than it should? If it does I guess it could be trimmed down with a file or fine sanding paper. In any case I would first test by putting a piece of matte office tape (Scoth magic) on the top plate where you think the Viso could touch it. This provides temporary protection and you should be able to see possible scratches on the matte surface of the tape. However, you should not leave the tape on for a longer period of time, because the area protected will be visible after removal (not being polished in normal use like the rest of the top plate). Chazphoto Posted November 5, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted November 5, 2023 Hi both and thanks. Your comments make me suspect that this is me being clumsy and tilting the Viso when mounting it or dismounting, so that the corner connects with the top plate. I'm not sure that I will ever be careful enough to avoid that in the future, so will still need to find a solution. Might try the Scotch tape, but on the Viso unit not the top plate - if there is enough flat surface on the bottom edge to get it to stick. Siriusone59 Posted November 5, 2023 Share #5 Posted November 5, 2023 Might try some thinly cut strips of Scotch 33 electrical tape allowing it to fold over and adhere to the sides and front of the Viso. I did a similar fix to tighten a Thumbsup into my Q's hotshoe. It has lasted surprisingly well considering I only remove it when needing to mount a flash. Best of all, the color matches.😉
