Daniel Ortego Posted November 18, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) After only 24-hours and three silly photos my new M8 would not turn off. The preview display just sat there and nothing I did with the controls would allow me to cancel and shut it off. I had to remove the battery and reinsert it. I recall other reports of this anomaly so what’s the culprit? So far, I couldn’t duplicate the fault after several other power-up routines. Just a fluke’ or another Leica M8 thing? M6J Posted November 18, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2007 Well, I think we should learn to live with these random lock-ups. They're part of the M8 ...character
marknorton Posted November 18, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 18, 2007 Treat it as a one-off for now, but if it recurs, there may be a problem. While it was locked up, could you take pictures? Was the red light on? Did the last picture make it on to the card?
Shootist Posted November 18, 2007 Share #4 Posted November 18, 2007 Well, I think we should learn to live with these random lock-ups. They're part of the M8 ...character Not necessarily. I have own 3 M8's (First one was replaced for faults not relating to any problem with the image or the function of the camera) and have never had a lockup with any of them except when trying to use "Clean Sensor" mode in the menu system. Just yesterday I shot over 2 GB's of images with multiple lenses, uses 2 batteries (aftermarket batteries at that) and 2 cards. Camera was on for most of the day, except when it did it's Auto shut off, and I didn't have one glitch/hitch or idiosyncrasy. One thing you should do is leave the camera on overnight, you have to disable the auto shut off, to drain the battery fully and then recharge. This resets the battery and camera. Most members on this forum have done this with every battery and camera they own, including me (Actually did it last night with both the batteries I used yesterday). Daniel Ortego Posted November 18, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted November 18, 2007 Thanks for the responses. No Mark, the camera was not able to function at all after locking up in preview mode; it just froze like a billboard. As for the battery calibration, I was planning on doing that sometime today, before or after I update from 1.108. Regards,
