Hey all. New to the forum, because I just picked up my first Leica the other day, a TL2.

I have a whole room full of Canon EF and EF-L lenses, so I’d rather go the adaptor route rather than spending a whole bunch of money on more lenses.

But, the two adaptors I’ve tried so far haven’t worked. First, this cheapie, which is supposed to be able to do autofocus and gets solid reviews/marks on Amazon, and this one, a little more expensive but still sort of a cheapie, also auto focus capable and with outstanding marks. But alas, I still get the f00 and nothing but a black screen.

Has anybody had any success with the offerings on Amazon for this adaptor? Please tell me there’s something on there that actually works.

I use the Commlite CM-EF-L adaptor on my CL and TL, works fine. I believe that the two you have tried only work on full frame L mount cameras.

Gah. Stupid Amazon. Neither of the listings that I linked distinguish between crop sensor or full frame. All they say is 'compatible with L mount', which is true, but it's not enough information.

Thanks, Matlock, for the info. I'll check out the Commlite.

Is it this one? It's another listing that doesn't mention crop sensor or full frame compatible, plus down it the details it specifically mentions that it is compatible with Leica SL601 and SL2 (both full fame sensor cameras), but no mention of TL2 nor any crop sensor Leicas. Just want to make sure before I buy the wrong thing again.

Yes that is the one. I got caught baying another brand that didn't work, this one works perfectly on my CL and TL

Interesting, I gave up on the idea of adapting my EF glass to the CL years ago and must have missed this adapter. So it enables full aperture and focus control?

Ach. Bad news. Got that adaptor in the mail today, and still not working. Still get the f00, nothing but black screen, and the touch menus are all screwy and confused.

So I think at this point I’m just gonna have to bite the bullet and buy a proper lens for it and forget about the adaptor strategy. Which really sucks because I have all these pro Canon lenses that I’d love to use on it, but it seems like it won’t work any other way. Not to mention that the lenses I see for it are crazy expensive.

I now have a couple hundred bucks credit on Amazon, so now I’m looking for recommendations-

Auto focus

Prefer a walk-around zoom, but if prime, I’d think I’d go with a 35mm (~50mm equiv)

Doesn’t have to be super fast

Something like this Sigma 18-50 F2.8 would be great, but at $525, hopefully I can find something for about half of that price. Do I have any options?

Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC

I had the Lumix 20-60 briefly (acquired as part of the S5 II kit) and tried it on the CL. It was a decent performer actually and I really enjoyed the focal range having only ever used primes on it. Would recommend!
