memphismonroe Posted September 28, 2023 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok so I just notice on the waveform on both the display and monitor it is clipping all highlights above 90% Changing the ISO won't matter. Is this normal or is it a setting somewhere? Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Advertisement Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Hi memphismonroe, Take a look here Leica SL2-S Clipping Highlights at 90%. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Photoworks Posted September 28, 2023 Share #2 Posted September 28, 2023 I would say you are 3 stops overexposed. Leica LOG likes to be exposed correctly. Middle tones in at 50% that said there are always ways to recover some of that in Davinci. I would start with using a larger color space Like Davinci Wide Gamut Inter. memphismonroe Posted September 28, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted September 28, 2023 Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah I overexposed it deliberately to show the clipping, I was just confused why it clipped everything at 90% and not 100%. With further examination this seems to be normal, slog3 for example clips at 93%.
OleBe Posted September 28, 2023 Share #4 Posted September 28, 2023 (edited) I assume we are talking about the log preview, right? Not a Rec709 LUT. Totally fine to have the log cliping at that point, since it seems Leica has developed its log with future and better cameras in their mind already. Meaning the more dynamic range the camera could capture, the higher the clipping point will be. If you CST L-log to Rec709 in Resolve, the clipping should be shown at 100 IRE because this will do the proper tone mapping. Photoworks Posted September 28, 2023 Share #5 Posted September 28, 2023 Most log curves are not linear. to recover shadow and highlights Welcome, dear visitor!
