ChrisQ3 Posted September 22, 2023 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I'm new to the Q series, so I apologise if this is a rather basic question. I come from a Fujifilm background, where I can set the minimum Shutter Speed within the Auto ISO settings - therefore the camera will increase the ISO appropriately, to keep the Shutter Speed above the minimum Shutter speed set. However; within the Auto ISO settings on the Q3, there is a shutter speed Maximum, but not Minimum. So my questions are, how does the camera calculate what shutter speed it uses if the Auto Maximum Shutter Speed or a specific maximum shutter speed is selected, within the Auto ISO? Secondly, can I set a Minimum Shutter Speed within the Auto ISO, or is the only method a manual one? I hope the above makes sense. Thanks in advance. ChrisQ3 Posted September 22, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted September 22, 2023 Yes, thanks for your message. It says ‘limit’, so I assume that’s the maximum shutter speed, not minimum? How do I set the minimum? Or do I set it manually? (Fuji says Minimum SS)

If the camera needs slower ss iso goes up. I’ve set mine to max.

Wrongly, to me ‘Limit’ suggests maximum not minimum! Doh!! Which did sound strange…. Thanks again. Edited September 22, 2023 by ChrisQ3
mholeica Posted September 22, 2023 Share #10 Posted September 22, 2023 What do you set it to out if interest? I do max iso 12600 and shutter limit to 1/250. Am happy to max iso before reducing shutter speed. Iso 12600 with AI noise reduction seem to work very well.
oldsalt Posted September 23, 2023 Share #11 Posted September 23, 2023 Hi Chris Q3 ... I have to agree with you about the word "limit" ...on the road we have a speed "limit" and it means the "maximum" speed you can do on that road... the Q2 menu system has some quirks... but once somebody explains it... you say "oh...that's what they mean" and all's well... this forum is a great help to new owners 👍 Enjoy your new camera, it's lovely once you get it all set up for your style of photography ... cheers

Maybe it’s a translation issue! I’m loving the camera, hopefully soon it will fill like an extension on my hand - it still feels a little foreign. Well, the lack of noise at a high ISO on the Q3 is really impressive - I would rather have noise than a blurry picture, so I too set the maximum ISO to 12500 and the shutter limit to 1/250. Due to the layout of the camera, it can easily be overridden depending on circumstances.

I definitely will need the handgrip I bought for my forthcoming Q3 to feel as if I have a good enough grip of it to not 'drop' it accidentally naturally,

Probably so, I hope the handgrip alleviates it. 5 minutes, no 15 minutes to be charitable with the Q, with a wrist strap and NO thumb grip is quite uncomfortable to say the least. 15 minutes with a VLUX-5 and handgrip is just fine. So maybe eventually I will have to look at the thumb grip.

I have the $tandard Leica thumb grip, it's OK... but the Haoge "Hot shoe thumb up rest grip" (their wording) is much better, it has a slight curve outwards at the bottom and your thumb sits more comfortably in that position (in my opinion) - check it our before you lay our lots of $ on the original Leica unit. cheers
