Initial M8 Reactions

Part One: Initially, I felt a rush go through my body like I was holding a rare and expensive artifact (partially true). The camera looked larger than I expected, although when I first handled the body I felt it was smaller. It was definitely heavier than I expected. In fact, I felt it was difficult to gain a comfortable grip due to its configuration. I knew immediately I would appreciate the factory grip, which I also purchased. Likewise, I was considering a custom skin and I realized right away that Morgan’s “Griptac” would clearly help to more safely handle this 5-9k device (w/lens). Lastly, I was surprised to find the lack of a plastic film over the LCD which is typical with similar items such as cell phones, PDA’s, etc.

personally, I really like the leicagoodies "sling" to carry the camera in your hand. why? 1. I always take my camera running and there is no chance of it fallling (and I now have a huge right arm bicep 2. Iin public situations you can shake someones right hand without taking the camera out of your right hand. The first couple of times it may seem awkward, but you get the hang of it that people hardly notice unless they look that you've got this huge growth on your hand. It sounds weird, but you can do it.

 

I'll follow some time with a winter report on the sling for winter running up here in the great white north, where we can do well in excess of -30C. I may have to do some adjustments to get one to fit, and diddle with a design for mitts as gloves don't always cut it up here. (I shamelessly copied the design for my personal use on my second camera with a nylon webbing).
