Ianindeal Posted September 5, 2023 Share #1 Posted September 5, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just received my Q3 today and finally realised the hood itself was tucked away in lens cap lol! Now I just need to know if there are there any tips to allow me to screw the hood on and ensure it sits square with the lens. Thanks Ian

Thanks Ian Normally the hood and lens cap are already fitted to the camera when you purchase it. Was this not the case? The hood just screws onto the front of the lens, but make sure that the thread protector ring has not been fitted to the lens. Normally this is in a small Leica cloth bag and is used to protect the thread when not using the hood. In your case, if the hood wasn't fitted there's a chance that the ring may already be on the lens. You should see an external thread onto which the hood is screws. The lens has a hard stop on it so you can't over tighten it and it automatically aligns correctly. It can be quite tight to turn at the very end however. Ianindeal Posted September 6, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted September 6, 2023 Thank you. By mistake I turned the lens cap to take it off and unscrewed the hood, thinking it was the cap; leaving the hood tightly fitted inside the cap. Ring is still in bag. Very nervous about turning as you rightly say its very tight at the end and worried it may damage thread. Thanks for your help
mholeica Posted September 6, 2023 Share #4 Posted September 6, 2023 My lens cap was very tight when I first got the camera new, sounds like it’s the case for you too and probably with all new Q3s. The lens cap will loosen with a few more goes and it will be easy to take the lens cap off to hood. The lens hood I just screwed back on so it sits straight.
Ianindeal Posted September 6, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted September 6, 2023 Thanks and that's my problem, getting the hood straight. Pic shows how far I can tighten it and reluctant to force it further Welcome, dear visitor! Guest Posted September 6, 2023 Share #6 Posted September 6, 2023 Just keep turning it, it'll be fine. You can't over tighten it. (as long as you haven't crossed the thread!) When you take the lens cap of just rotate it in the direction that you tightened the hood and pull slightly. That'll stop you unscrewing the hood. As mholeica says, it'll loosen a bit over time.
