antonioxrosa Posted September 4, 2023 Share #1 Posted September 4, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I have a M11 Monochrome and still have my old Nikon FM3A film camera. Now I am thinking about a Leica film camera and hesitating between the P and A. I know the major difference Ligthmeter. My doubt is.: Is this the only diference or the mechanical parts are also different ? I heard comments in both directions .... anyone has information that can help me?...thanks
Advertisement Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 Hi antonioxrosa, Take a look here MP or MA ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Greenhilltony Posted September 4, 2023 Share #2 Posted September 4, 2023 MP has black paint/silver chrome while MA has black/silver chrome only. I guess they should share as many mechanical parts as possible, because there is no reason to differentiate them given for their such small production demands...
FrozenInTime Posted September 4, 2023 Share #3 Posted September 4, 2023 I have both and there are subtle differences beyond the meter and trim; most noticeable are: The 75mm frame lines on the M-A are very minimalistic. The shutter release stroke length is shorter on the M-A as there is no meter half-press. I think this alone makes the M-A feel smoother and more precise. The meter on the MP is a mixed blessing as it will distract and slow you down if you try to use it for every shot, but it is useful for accurately pre-setting the exposure when learning a new film's characteristics.
