Very good quality, and they are magnetic, so i left the screwable part on the lens of the q3 and i can swap the filters fast... The screwable part doesn't affect the image, no vignetting o other issues.
Anakronox Posted September 4, 2023 Share #3 Posted September 4, 2023 Mind explaining why you’re not satisfied? In my experience, you’ll need to judge the strength of ND needed by the scene and your other exposure parameters. They’re not one size fits all. You most likely need a set to cover a variety of situations. I prefer B+W for small, circular filters and have a Haida M10 system for my square filters. I use a mix of 1, 3, 6, 10, and 15 depending on what my goal is.
Opaea Posted September 4, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted September 4, 2023 (edited) Thank you for the answers I agree there are differences between 1 and 10 stop but it is not exactly my question. I bought one filter nd 10 and try it in an what I thought was an adapted situation (waterfall a sunny day in these case). The water in center was as I expected but there was many vignetting and a lack of sharpness. I am not sure my exposure was perfect and it’s possible that the filters had nothing to do with that. But i wondered what are the best nd filters for Leica. Same question for polarisation but curiously i didn’t see significative default with the URTH polarisation filter witch is not expensive at all. Good filters are made of Optical Glass and are expensive...they MUST be expensive due to the fact that they are made of OPTICAL GLASS. I will never put a cheap filter in front of a wonderful lens like the summilux 28 f1.7... Buy EXPENSIVE FILTERS..and you will never regret.
FusionX.Photo Posted September 5, 2023 Share #6 Posted September 5, 2023 These are the best ND filters on the market in my opinion, no colour cast, lovely build quality, easy to clean. I have a 77mm so when I switched to the Q3 from Sony I just got a brass step up ring, they do make a 49mm version. https://breakthrough.photography/

I use Formatt Hitech Firecrest filters for my Q2. They are available for around £60-75 depending on the strengths of the filter. They also have excellent customer service. I had a 100mm square IR filter that I used to use with Ilford SFX film on a Mamiya 7. I wanted a smaller version to use on the Q2 but couldn’t buy one because EU regulations now prohibit use of the relevant chemicals. Instead, the company cut it down to an 85mm filter at no cost. I have no connection to the company but I’ve always found them excellent to deal with. Edited September 6, 2023 by ianforber
