wattsy Posted August 22, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 22, 2006 I think SK Grimes is the company you want.
masjah Posted August 22, 2006 Share #3 Posted August 22, 2006 Yes, SK Grimes made a batch for the Minilux 40mm Summarit (I've got one). The CM Summarit lens has (I think) the same external diameter, but the zoom variants are NOT the same, so they would have to be made specially - but SK Grimes will do them. They have three slots around their circumference into which an O-ring fits so providing a friction fit for the hood.
timbedsted1234 Posted August 22, 2006 Share #4 Posted August 22, 2006 Hello, I just got the hood for the CM. Lucklik Posted August 24, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted August 24, 2006 Tnx for the information. My wife's CM Zoom is for the 3th time send back to Leica. When she takes pictures in the sunlicht there is often flair in the middle of the picture. rgs Luc
davephoto Posted August 25, 2006 Share #7 Posted August 25, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) i couldn't quite comprehend just from looking at the photos, but it appears that the hood (w or w/o adapter) slides on the lens which it's extended. but when the lens retracts, the hood slips off. correct? timbedsted1234 Posted August 25, 2006 Share #8 Posted August 25, 2006 Dave, You are spot on. The hood is machined of steel with holes on circumference where the hood touches the camera body on top of these holes you have a rubber ring. It is the rubber ring which secures the hood to the lens, so you can turn of the camera and the hood will simply slide off when the lens retracts into the body. You have to spend some force to manually take it off the camera, so it is a very secure fit. I know this sounds like a contradiction in terms but it really works
masjah Posted August 25, 2006 Share #9 Posted August 25, 2006 Tim If the O ring is a bit tight, you can actually slip it off and give it a good stretch - it does seem to ease it a bit. (Grimes supplied me with a spare O ring by the way). My usual repeated senior moment is to switch the camera off forgetting that the hood is still in place - it then falls to the ground (or worse, such as the gap between slats on a footbridge; I avoided that one by millimeters!). Can I reiterate that an appropriate hood for the zoom is NOT the same as that for the fixed focal length camera. Diameter is different, but also, the hood has got to be a bit shorter because of the wider angle at the wide end of the zoom range. I don't know how effective it would be at the tele end, but I guess it has to be better than nothing.

Moo-Crumpus Posted August 28, 2009 Share #11 Posted August 28, 2009 If the slip-on was less thick and long on the slip-on-end, it would fit to the gap lice the lens cap does. It could possibly be glued (with caution) on the objective.
