sean_reid Posted November 15, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I haven't had time to keep with all the threads but do the folks who wanted Summarit lens codes (Carsten, Scott, Sandy?) still need them? If yes, I can post them. I'm doing vignetting/cyan drift/filter tests with all fours lenses right now. Cheers, Sean
Advertisement Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Hi sean_reid, Take a look here Summarit Codes. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted November 15, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 15, 2007 Carsten is showing the codes on his link but no images, so I'm sure he would appreciate images of the codes plus of course, it will be interesting to know if the codes for the new lenses (especially the 35) are a useful alternative for "non-codeable by Leica" lenses. The 6 bit code allows codes in the range 0 - 63. Leica reserved code 0 for "uncoded", the range 1 - 23 for old lenses and the range 24 - 63 for current (at the time the M8 was introduced, at least 2 of which, probably 4 have now gone) and future lenses. The new Summarits take them up to 46 which leaves them 17 codes to use for future lenses. If they do run out of codes, they would need to start using combinations of code and pre-view lever position. sean_reid Posted November 15, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted November 15, 2007 OK, thanks, I'll make some pictures of them this week. As I think you know, there are some codes that already require the specific frame line positions (the WATE for example). That should give them a lot of options, I would think. sandymc Posted November 15, 2007 Share #4 Posted November 15, 2007 Sean, thanks, we pulled the codes out of the new firmware: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/37994-6-bit-codes-new-summarits.html Sandy
guidomo Posted November 15, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 15, 2007 Excuse my ignorance but what are the images of the codes for? Wouldn't a binary representation be enough?
marknorton Posted November 15, 2007 Share #6 Posted November 15, 2007 Carsten's link includes images of the black and white marks to assist people coding their own lenses.
guidomo Posted November 15, 2007 Share #7 Posted November 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know but I've never quite seen the point.
sean_reid Posted November 15, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted November 15, 2007 Sean, thanks, we pulled the codes out of the new firmware: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/37994-6-bit-codes-new-summarits.html Sandy Right....I forgot about that option. sean_reid Posted November 15, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted November 15, 2007 I know but I've never quite seen the point. The pictures are there to give people a quick "visual orientation" to each specific code so that one doesn't accidentally code a lens backwards. I find it useful when I'm coding lenses and have twenty other things on my mind. Cheers, Sean
carstenw Posted November 15, 2007 Share #10 Posted November 15, 2007 Guide, I don't use them either, but in the beginning, we found that some people thought of the codes backwards, some inadvertently switched black for white, and so on, and the images just avoid all of that.
