time has come for me to part with some beloved material that I accumulated over the years so that I can rationalise and potentially looking into buying a flat

where is the best place to sell in Paris, some commissions seem quite high compared to other places

I would rather not sell on Summilux.net if possible as I heard that it takes 6 months to be certified to sell (may be wrong) and dont have the time for back and forth

I also have a full set of elinchrome light boxes stands and flash system that I may try to offload given the chance, this includes some gorgeous steel stands bought at B&H and long carry cases

Maybe advertise the stuff on the classifieds here, but limit the transactions to in-person only, with Paris as your sales venue.  Kind of like a garage-sale advertised on Leica Forum.

+1

there are a few Frenchmen in this forum :)

If you are ready to accept the high fees (as far as I remember 26%) from the Leica Stores in Paris, the pre-owned business works well and is managed by Jean-Marc who is very knowledgeable and a very interesting guy

thanks guys - I never tried this, but I may this time

@ Didier JMF is indeed a lovely guy and I am a regular client for both buying and selling, on this occasion I am trying to get as much as I can to help finance a flat and am planning to sell a few things so the commission would add up

would anyone have any idea where I could sell the flash/light stuff?

Fedro,

On summilux.net a delay of two (not six) months is required to be allowed to post on the Sell/Buy thread after being registered.

IMO you should register ASAP; 2 months will pass quickly .

August is dead in France and september is not a good period to sell as after holydays cash is as low as rivers in summertime, so october could bring more opportunities.

Do you know "Le boncoin"? It's a free platform where you can offer anything to sell with no commission but be aware that it is no more than someting like the Bay except than meeting the buyer is more frequent and easy.

On the other hand the payment is quite secure as the buyer sends the money to the site  and then the site transfers the money on your account (actually not directly on your bank but on a kind of home wallet  you can use to pay something you buy on the site. You can also transfer the money on your bank but it is not immediate)

For high value gear I advise you to use Summilux.net rather than Leboncoin.

Ask Photosuffren.com( avenue de Suffren near Eiffel tower) for their conditions to sell second hand .

Idem Photo Vincent ( Rue Ste-Anne near Opéra) , Elle et Lui (rue Condorcet  near Montmartre), Objectif bastille (rue Jules César near place de la Bastille).

These four I have dealt with in a brick and mortar shop.😄

thanks a lot Gelatino, these are all good tips. I know some (like Elle et Lui, but more for Hassy stuff) the rest I will check out

Thanks Steven for the good tips as well, I had similar feedback on summilux and honestly between kids, work and rest I dont have the time

I am selling a mix of old and new, at least 5-6 lenses and may have to let go of the 28 cron plus 1/2 fifties

I am using the x2d a lot these days, I have too much stuff that I dont use and need to cash some in to try and buy an apartment, let's see.

still not sure where to go for my lighting equipment but can try to sell that in London

btw if anyone is interested in meeting up or there are regular catch ups do let me know as a recently relocated (Brexit exile) single dad would be up for meeting up
