I see no point in scanning personally, unless to post on social media, in which case scan the print. YMMV and speaking of B&W but colour film’s boat left a while ago. I do both, because I do not really like the contact sheet process. I just develop a roll, pull the entire roll through my film holder (camera scanning using a Sony A7II and macro lens), cut the film, put it in a sleeve, label it and put it in a folder. The digital files get „developed“ and then I store them with maybe 6MP in a folder on my harddrive with the same substructure as my actual folders. I can browse through my digital folders, look for good images, take them out and print them on my Saunders 4500-II (yes, I do actually shoot other formats than 35 mm, my Leica M5 and Nikon FM3a are accompanied by a Hasselblad 501CM, Yashica MAT124 and Toyo 45A). I really like this method of making „digital contact sheets“ Regarding the actual topic: I really think it is quite funny, that Leica now produces the MP in the clothes of the old M6. Because of course the new M6 is actually an MP in different clothes. The electronics of the old M6 still are not available anymore, the ones in the new M6 are identical to those of the MP. I do not know if the viewfinder is exactly the same, but I would actually be astonished if not. So actually Leica is currently building exactly one model of film camera in three versions. 80s looks with exposure meter (M6), 60s looks with meter (MP) and 60s looks without meter (M-A). And I assume they redesigned the MP to look like the M6 because Leica also did not miss the recent Youtube hype around the old M6 and thought that they might attract some young, cool, urban guys to buy their „new“ M6, who would not buy the MP due to its oldfashioned design. I btw. would go with a black MP, should I wish to replace my M5 (which I don‘t). I have to admit, the black MP just looks gorgeous.
Advertisement Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Hi Kref, Take a look here New Leica M6 buyers remorse?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
newtoleica Posted September 29, 2023 Share #82 Posted September 29, 2023 @Kref. That's a good way of managing digital and film. You also have digital versions for posting if you want. I have a neat way of doing contact sheets. transparent A4 size files take 7 x 5 frame strips and print straight onto an A4 sheet under a sheet of glass. The writing on the film storage sheet also comes out on the contact sheet and I keep that filed with the negatives.

The Old M6 came first.... so the MP is essentially the old M6 with Different clothes as is the new MP. You are right as everything dates back to the old M6, which was and still is their hero camera. I have an old M6 and see no reason to buy a new M6. In terms of me post work with film....I still enjoy processing and then scanning my film individually one at a time. This allows me to change the settings on my scanner to match that particular negative. Makes sense, as opposed to batch scanning.

No because the MP has an improved meter and much better VF system that doesn't flare. And it is built from brass not zinc. The new M6 is the MP in different clothes. 1
abb-strack Posted October 8, 2023 Share #85 Posted October 8, 2023 No buyers remorse for me I kept my new M6 and haven't looked back. strange though did I miss some news about a price increase. The M6 I paid $5295 for earlier this year is now up to $5695 on Leica’s site. Shortage of parts or something else?
