Warranty repair

I have decided, having taken advice from the combined talents of the group to send my newly acquired 75 summilux back to be fixed and I need to know the procedure for this.

The lens was bought new from Hong Kong and the dealer has said he will stump up for postage and repair. I do not want to send it back to Hong Kong and would rather deal directly with Leica, I live in the UK.

The lens barrel wobbles ever so slightly, there is what can only be described as slop.the consensus from the group was that there seems to be a loose helicoid in the rear lens barrel

The lens is brand new so I would expect Leica to do a warranty repair on the item. I hope that is a fair assumption.

I have the warranty card so do I send that in with the lens directly to Solms? Or do I have to OK it with someone first. What is the correct address to send it. Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Cheers

Tom

I've just had my DMR repaired (the micro switch that indicates whether the card cover is open or closed had failed). I sent it to Milton Keynes via my local Leica dealer (Cambrian Photogrpahy in Colwyn Bay) and have no idea whether it was repaired in UK or sent it to Solms. All I can say is that it came back in about 4 weeks and there was no hassle.

Earlier this year I also had a Digilux 2 repaired (the sensor had failed) using the same despatch route. It took longer, but the overall experience was the same even though the camera was over 3 years old at the time. Ditto the time several years ago when they replaced the shutter blinds, and calibrated the shuttter speeds, on a 1958 M3 (although that did cost...!)

Other people may have had problems with Leica service centres, but I've always found them to be excellent. Do make sure that you send your warranty card with the camera and draw their attention to the fact with a covering letter in which you also describe the defect in detail.
