Hey folks! Quick question (hopefully). I just bought an M11 (love it) and I use these cameras for work (photojournalism), and I always tag my photos in camera to save time ingesting and filing.

I found the feature in Leica to give a photo a star, but when I ingest the photos into photo mechanic, I'm not seeing either any tag (like how Nikon and Canon "tag" photos) or with any star ratings (how my Sony tags).

I read the user manual, but can't see any reason why they wouldn't show up. I had this issue on my Sony A1 once, but was easily resolved because I had changed the playback slot. So I tried to see if there's a way to determine whether the M11 playback is coming from the SD card or the internal memory, but wasn't able to find that.

Does anyone know how to get these tags to show up in photo mechanic?

Much thanks!!!

UPDATE: The ratings show up in photo mechanic 6 when I shoot JPG, but not when I shoot DNG. Anyone know how to fix this?

No, that's the same "issue" with all Leica M bodies in PM. I save both jpg and dng files for that reason.

Mind you, if you apply a Photo Mechanic color class (blue, red or whatever) to your DNG files then Photoshop will not be able to read the file after you try to open it a second time. The files will stay corrupted. Had a long technical chat with people from Adobe about that, they were not able to solve the issue because it is PM related. No problem with Leica M jpgs or for example Nikon NEFs. That's why I have to duplicate all the Leica M DNGs before processing them with PM...

I do not know about Adobe Lightroom or other photo editors, however.

Dang, that seems like an absolutely massive oversight. I used to have a Q2 and don't remember this being an issue...But I suppose that's a Q body so maybe it doesn't have the same issue?

So do you save both DNG and JPG to one card, import both, and that way you have tags on the JPG and are able to find the associated DNG?

Exactly! The corresponding DNG and JPG files are always shown next to each other

I use color tags all the time and they never get corrupted.

I use Capture one color class preset and check on for Synchronize Color IPTC/XMP

The color shows up in the Capture one and Camera raw in PS.

I also combine the view of DNG and JPG, it makes for faster preview rendering, renaming works on both files the same and so does color star rating.

I have never mentioned Capture ONE. The OP referred to PM (Photo Mechanics, the industry standard for photo journalists). Hence, I also referred to color classes in Photo Mechanics. This is not about Capture ONE. I have to add that the latest software versions of Adobe Photoshop, PM and MacOS are applied on several Mac computers, no Windows systems tested.

That's fine! Don't take me wrong, I guess you still do not understand "my issues", but that's totally o.k. since Adobe confirmed the problem officially. And we are off topic already...

I understand your issue, and I don't have an issue opening in PS 2022-3 DNG files in camera raw after color tagging in PM over and over.

Oh that's really smart. I've Googled around a bit, and I see options in Photo Mechanic for which file to edit when using RAW+JPG mode and which file to read metadata from, but I don't see an option to like, turn on RAW+JPG mode?

How do you do that? Thanks for the advice you two, deeply appreciate it.

View > Combined images or Comd+J

Also in the combined view you can select all the 1 star and reapply the 1 star with (control+1)  and all the DNG now have the star too.

Hey your advice made my whole week. Thank you so much dude. This is a great workaround for this issue!
