Nigel Craig Posted July 13, 2023 Share #1 Posted July 13, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think this is a 1958 model, last of the screw mounts. The central part of the front element is clear but surrounded by haze. I’ve tested all apertures on a Panasonic S1R and f8, f11 and f16 give reasonable contrast , f5.6 less so and f2.8 and f4 have a “veiled” look. It’s not in any way urgent but the lens is nice mechanically so I wondered how much I might need to spend on tools to remove the front element (following guidance from YouTube); seems it would cost £150-165 to have the lens cleaned professionally. jc_braconi Posted July 13, 2023 Share #2 Posted July 13, 2023 Unless You are a specialist, I think it will be wise to let it to be clean by a Leica representative, I have just got back an Elmar 2.8/50 which had a similar round haze around the front lens, and I will say that the firm done a very nice job now, it is now cristal clear and no marks of tools to see.
