When do you shoot colour? B & W?

Hello out there,

I suppose there are those that shoot colour all the time, those that shoot black and white all the time, and those that mix 'em.

Just wondering what determines whether you shoot colour OR whether you shoot black and white.

Is it a matter of black and white for portraits and some street scenes AND colour for landscapes?

I realize its each to his own, but what are your photographic tendencies.

Reasons?

John

Fujichromes all the time except when there's an urgent need to shoot Tri-x.

I hate film that forgets to record the colour;-)

As an abstraction and as a genre B&W has a charme when doing wet print that no desat. on colour images can archieve.

I shoot RAW with both my DMR and the M8 - if I need monochrome I convert in PhotoShop or similar. I suspect that almost all digital photographers do the same - AFAIK there is no advantage in shooting monochrome rather than colour on a digital camera - even if monochrome is intended as the final outcome when the shutter release is pressed.

I have custom profle:

1 ISO160 DNG

2 ISO640 DNG

3 ISO2500 JPG BW

Set for quick setup, I juggle from these base setups, but mostly only flip to ISO320 outside mornings or evenings as it darkens & I'm hand holding. Both cameras are set like this so I don't have to remember anything..
