Mikep996 Posted July 7, 2023 Share #21  Posted July 7, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I worked with a gentleman in New York who, in 1967-68 had been a combat photog in Vietnam, often embedded with infantry on missions.  He used a Leica M2 and, in 2006, when I left NY, he was still using the same camera.  Per him, It had never been "serviced" in any way and still worked perfectly/no RF issues.  I have a 1984 M6 that's never been serviced and the focus is accurate.  That's not to say the RF can't be mis-aligned but it doesn't seem to be something that regularly needs attention.  At least it didn't on old film Ms.  OTOH, my first digital Leica, an M10 I bought a few years ago DID need its rangefinder re-aligned. 🙄

Huss Posted July 7, 2023 Share #22 Â Posted July 7, 2023 Yeah, the cameras that are in constant use seem to need less servicing. Â it's the never used shelf queens that demand constant attention!
f8low Posted July 8, 2023 Share #23  Posted July 8, 2023 (edited) I don't know about RF calibration but the biggest dent in my 60+ years old M2 is due to me riding it around in a road bike's handlebar bag. Pack carefully 😉 PS: The challenge isn't to pack it safely when you start your ride - it's when you've taken it already 5 times out and back in to take a shot during the last hour and now you're already slightly tired of your sophisticated packing strategy... Edited July 8, 2023 by rho
