ikc Posted July 2, 2023 Share #1 Posted July 2, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) My new Q3 battery will not charge to beyond 80% using the original Leica charger (i.e., the amber night does not turn off). This is the first time I have charged the battery, and it has been on the unit overnight. Has anyone else seen this with the new battery and charger? For reference, my Q2 battery (which I am using as a spare), charged fully before I put the new battery on the same charger.

Parallax Posted July 2, 2023 Share #2 Posted July 2, 2023 For the Q2, I don't believe the orange light turns off when the battery is fully charged. At 80 percent, the orange light comes on and the green light continues to flash indicating the battery is still charging. When the battery is fully charged, the green LED stops flashing so both LEDs are solidly lit. I don't know if the Q3 is different. This image is from the Q2 manual. Welcome, dear visitor! ikc Posted July 2, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted July 2, 2023 FWIW, I charged the Q2 battery before putting the Q3 battery on the same charger. I seem to recall that the Q2 battery went from both lights to green only, but maybe I am remembering this wrong. The Q3 battery has both lights on, but when I just connected via the Leica FOTOS app, looks like it is at 100%.

I’m guessing the Q3 is the same. - Otherwise, Are you enjoying the Q3 more than the Q2? I’m bouncing back and forth about upgrading.
ikc Posted July 2, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted July 2, 2023 My initial observations are that the autofocus is far more accurate and way faster -- to the point that it makes sense to use over manual focus without the concern for an incorrectly focused shot. I'm excited about the increased resolution, mostly because I did find cropped Q2 images noticeably degraded when viewed on a large screen. I like the tilt screen for low shots, but I haven't used it much yet. To my eye, the back panel and the viewfinder are richer in appearance than the predecessor. All in all, I think it's an incremental upgrade, and I'm glad that I was offered a camera by the Leica boutique to make the switch.
