Mike Rawcs Posted June 17, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 17, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm currently attempting to install firmware 1.6.1 onto may M11 Monochrom. I haven't used the Leica Fotos app yet and so I thought I'd use the old fashioned way and just download the firmware onto an SD card and install 'the old fashioned way'. The download of the firmware to my Mac was straightforward but when I attempted to open it I received the message There is no application set to open the document “LEICA_M11_MONO_V1.6.1.FW”. Search the App Store for an application that can open this document, or choose an existing application on your computer. Can anyone help please? I don't really want to have to go through the process of pairing my camera to the Leica Fotos app. Thanks in advance for any help.
Advertisement Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 Hi Mike Rawcs, Take a look here Downloading Firmware 1.6.1 the old fashioned way?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Bikie John Posted June 17, 2023 Share #2 Posted June 17, 2023 Why did you want to open it? Your Mac doesn't need to do anything to or with it. Don't you just copy the file to the SD card then put the card in the camera? (Following all the other instructions of course ). John
Mike Rawcs Posted June 17, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted June 17, 2023 Thanks for the reply. I've downloaded the firmware update from Leica. When I attempt to open the download (in downloads) I get the message above. I've never come across this before when downloading firmware.
Darrell Posted June 17, 2023 Share #4 Posted June 17, 2023 Why would you open the download? It isn’t for the Mac, it’s for the camera. Just copy it to the SD card.
Mike Rawcs Posted June 17, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted June 17, 2023 Thanks for all the help here. I've downloaded the firmware using the Leica Fotos app and the Leica Fotos cable, so all is well. I think I understand now that I could just drag the download from Leica to the SD card? I was expecting to have to open the download and then drag the contents (a file) to the SD card. These things are easy - once you have done them once. Thanks again for the help. Mike.
Woolly66 Posted June 17, 2023 Share #6 Posted June 17, 2023 (edited) There is no need to open the file on your computer - just copy it to an sd card, inset it in your M11Mono, make sure your battery is well charged and go into the main menu. On screen 5 select Camera Information > Camera firmware version > Firmware update. Follow the instructions and the firmware will be installed. LeicaR10 Posted June 17, 2023 Share #7 Posted June 17, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Mike Rawcs, I most highly suggest you read the firmware download/upload instructions on the Leica website. The instructions to accomplish this process are in the M11 M manual that you can download free from the Leica site. If you do this wrong, you will be sending your camera back to Leica Customer Care to fix your camera. The manual has step by step instructions. Do not deviate from the steps. Also, make sure your SD card is clear of all photos and reformat the SD card in camera first before moving the firmware to the SD card from your computer. Go to page 140 of the M11-M manual and read the instructions. r/ Mark Try: https://leica-camera.com/en-AU/downloads?download_area_category=1161&field_media_document_language=984 Edited June 17, 2023 by LeicaR10

Bikie John Posted June 18, 2023 Share #9 Posted June 18, 2023 Glad you got there in the end. As you say - like so many things it's easy once you have done it once! John
