Bryan Goh Posted May 30, 2023 Share #1 Posted May 30, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Could anyone verify if the issue I’m having is normal? In low light conditions when using AFc mode and half pressing the shutter. The LCD and EVF both dim down about a stop or more. The histogram also follows, so it’s not just screen brightness. It’s not a major issue but wanted to find out if it’s normal for the camera to do this. I don’t see this on my other cameras. Before and after half press image below. thanks! Welcome, dear visitor! LCM94 Posted May 30, 2023 Share #2 Posted May 30, 2023 (edited) It's because (I guess) you see the live (real) jpeg exposure when half pressing the shutter Edited May 30, 2023 by LCM94

Histogram of the taken photo is as per before half pressing the shutter.
Bryan Goh Posted May 30, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted May 30, 2023 So I just went to the Leica store to test out their demo unit in a dim room. Same situation, EVF/LCD/Histogram dims when half pressing in AFc mode. Took a photo and the photo shows correct exposure before half pressing the button. Is it stopping the lens down when you half press the shutter perhaps? Does it get even dimmer if you select a smaller aperture?

But I do believe you may be right that it is stopping down to acquire focus and the EVF/LCD brightness / ISO is not compensating for it during focusing. justinkaplan Posted August 16, 2023 Share #8 Posted August 16, 2023 I am curious if what the conclusion of this ended up being. I just got a Q3 and have noticed the exact same things but does not do it in AFs mode.
