Does a step down ring work as a minimalist hood for Leica Q2/Q3?

Does anyone use or know if a single step down ring can be used as a hood on the leica Q2/Q3? I've been using one on my rx1r2 which has been working well for keeping the kit small. Was wondering if the same can be done with the Leica Q series cameras, though it has 28mm which idk if that wide-ness makes it not possible. Plus, I was hoping it'd make the Leica Q3 less discernible since the Leica hood usually makes it easy to identify as a Leica Q series camera.

I don’t know, as I like the hood of the Q, however, on many lenses I use a step up ring. Not so much as use as a shade but more for protection. Never use lenscaps.

I use a ventilated lens shade when I know I’ll be using filters. Ventilation is pointless of course but I suppose one advantage is to make the camera look different. I think I just bought a cheap one off Amazon
