Hi,

I would like to know if anyone has compared the Summicron-SL 50 f/2 ASPH lens to the Summilux-TL 35 mm f/1,4 ASPH lens on Leica SL2/SL2-S camera?

I am well aware that the Summilux-TL 35 mm f/1,4 Asph is an APS-C lens and will give 20 MPx resolution on the SL2 and 10 MPx on the Leica SL2-S. Another disadvantage is that APS-C lenses from Leica are not tropicalized.

Nevertheless, the Summilux-TL 35 mm f/1,4 Asph has a good reputation, so I would be interested to know what this lens is worth on the SL2/SL2-S full frame cameras compared to the new Summicron-SL 50 f/2 ASPH?

Thanks in advance

It will depend on what you want to do. If it is for web only and quite small prints, then the 35mm TL would be fine, but the difference between full frame and APS-C is substantial, and more than the difference in lens quality between good lenses. If your main body is going to be full frame, I think it would be quite unwise to choose an APS-C only lens. I have not compared the two lenses you suggested, but I did compare the 23mm Summicron TL to the 24mm Sigma 3.5, and the Sigma is the better lens. Not only on 35mm, but also on APS-C.

I don`t see much which speaks in favour of the TL 1.4/35mm. A very good lens no doubt, but don`t buy an APS-C lens if you shoot full frame. If you value mechanical design and don`t mind paying for it - the SL 2/50 is a good choice. Personally, I would never buy it. Why? It is identical optically to the Panasonic S 1.8/50 and for me the superior build quality is not worth the extra cost. You could also consider the new Sigma 2/50. Very good lens, and better built than the Panasonic.
