The main point (IMHO) of monochrome cameras is that it forces you to be in "B&W mode", ie., you can't compare the Q3 to a Q2m.  People who think they can just convert a color file into B&W miss the point (IMHO).

You are so right…thinking B&W and seeing B&W in the viewfinder makes for magic. That said, I received my Q3 a couple of weeks ago. Set the .jpg to High Contrast Monochrom on the Q3 and you are there…thinking and seeing through the viewfinder B&W in all its glory. Here’s an image converted in Capture One. It’s just all I need.  My Q2M already has a new home.

I own both a Q2 and a Q2M. The reason is that the tonality from the Monochrom is significantly better than B&W conversions from the Q2. I believe that the same is likely to hold true for the Q3, although users will have to find out for themselves.

My advice is that if you are really serious about B&W photography, keep the Monochrom and get either a Q2 or Q3 for color, assuming you can afford to do so. OTOH, if you are not that serious, sell the Monochrom and get a Q3.
