AlanJW Posted November 9, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wanted to share an observation about the new firmware. Within a month of getting my M8 back in January, the battery "failed". It would not charge completely -- after the charger cycle was completed and the battery inserted in the camera the battery meter would never show more than 2 bars. I bought a second battery, which was fine. Leica replaced the first one but did not ask that the defective one be returned, so I kept it. Last night after I had installed firmware 1.10, I put the defective battery in the camera turned off power management and let it run down to one bar. I then charged it. On reinserting it in the camera it now shows three bars -- a normal dsplay. My conclusion is that the battery was not defective; this was reflective of the firmware issues re the battery display that Leica has fixed.

marknorton Posted November 9, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 9, 2007 It may be that over a large population of batteries and chargers, the voltage of a full charged battery "on load" may on occasion be less than they expected and they've adjusted the 2/3 bar threshold in firmware to be more generous. Shootist Posted November 12, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 12, 2007 Well one of my aftermarket batteries ran down to one bar and I recharged it. After the charging was done I stuck back in the camera and it still read only one bar. So the fix they implemented didn't change that.
