Laharrier Posted May 5, 2023 Share #1 Posted May 5, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’ve noticed that on my new M10-R that when focus is locked to infinity on my 50 Cron and I’m looking at something about a half mile away, the horizontal rangefinder alignment is short a hair. Almost unnoticeable. At closer distances like 300 meters it is perfect. Images appear to be well focused at infinity and closer distances. I have read that infinity on a 50mm lens should be at 300 meters so is this normal calibration for the camera body and lens? My 75mm and 90mm seem to lock in at over 300 meters perfectly. Just wondering if this is acceptable for my camera body. In practice focus seems spot on just never noticed this on my previous M bodies.

Adam Bonn Posted May 5, 2023 Share #2 Posted May 5, 2023 Try on a star or on the moon, which is true infinity and should align in the RF with the lens on the hardstop

I suspect if it’s coming up a bit short at 1/2 mile it will at a star too but I’ll give it a go. Might need this lens calibrated

Checked against my other M bodies and it’s definitely only the M10 doing it (not reaching infinity in the rangefinder patch at full lock). Oddly enough the images I’ve reviewed are dead sharp. Even shooting my Summicron wide open at infinity I couldn’t ask for a sharper image. Images at closed distances seem like they may also be acceptable but more testing is needed. I’ve seen several folks report this issue on their M10 bodies. Going to confirm focus at closer distances before I get out the hex key and start adjusting

Okay here’s something interesting and maybe the cause for my “issue”. I adjusted the angle which my eye was looking through the viewfinder and infinity appears to be perfect. Perhaps this is just slightly different than my 240 was in terms of viewing angle and eye relief, as again I can’t find any issue with the actual images. AFAIK the downside of the VF upgrade of greater eye relief on the M10x range is an increased need to ensure ones eye is perfectly placed.. if the pictures are fine then I’d leave it all alone. Yep, pretty sure it’s just user error on my part. Will monitor it and see but glad I discovered that today. Camera is really outstanding
