Glen St.Louis Posted April 26, 2023 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an M7 and did not use for a year. I loaded up some Delta 400 at 200 and compensation of plus 1.5. When I went to shoot, the meter read "ASH" on auto both aperture priority" and manual. The shutter seemed to fire. Any idea on what is going on. Thank you, Glen
Advertisement Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Hi Glen St.Louis, Take a look here M7 meter reading ASH. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Anbaric Posted April 26, 2023 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2023 'ASH' or 'ASA'? I think 'ASA' can light up if the dial on the back isn't set quite right, and for other reasons. Are you in DX reader mode? What happens if you set the film speed manually? Do you have the original gold DX contacts or the newer optical contacts and are they clean? Fresh batteries? Huss Posted April 26, 2023 Share #3 Posted April 26, 2023 Read page 81 of the M7 manual. .... "ASA” flashes for the entire display duration invalid position between "DX” and the manual val- of ISO 100/21°.
Glen St.Louis Posted April 27, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted April 27, 2023 Thank you. I do know of the ASA flash ing - but this definitely reads ASH - that is why I was confounded. (I now suspect maybe I have a digital bar out at teh second apex! A) I rewound with more than normal resistance and removed the film and found a small piece missing off the leader (at sprocket holes) and found it partially over the gold contacts. I suspect when I put it in I misaligned something when watching from the bottom and just taking up. I re-cut the film as only 4 shots in and reloaded, and no problem and no ASH or ASA. However, thank you for coming to my rescue. I genuienlyappreciate it. Respectfully, Glen St.Louis
Mikep996 Posted April 27, 2023 Share #5 Posted April 27, 2023 I don't know which is worse, that the camera seemed to be malfunctioning or that the owners manual of a film camera needed (at least) 81 pages. 🙄 Yeah, I know, compared to digital that's nothing!😱

And half of that describes how they swear it doesn't scratch film.
Huss Posted April 27, 2023 Share #7 Posted April 27, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) M7 manual - 64 pages (English) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/42007.pdf M6 manual - 49 pages (English) https://leica-camera.com/sites/default/files/pm-85045-Leica-M6_Instructions_EN.pdf Difference? M7 describes the AE, and all the AE readout stuff, setting ISO dial, what happens if you do not use DX etc. TTL flash use etc M6 - only manual mode. Fotoklaus Posted April 27, 2023 Share #8 Posted April 27, 2023 Funny is, that a simple camera like the M7 is so challenging these days.

All the issues are from the bizarre way Leica decided to implement the DX reader. Anything outside using a DX canister and the ISO reader set to Dx results in a confusing series of blinking lights and maybe a message. It would be perfect if it did not have a DX reader.
