DeLallo Posted November 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone had time to set up a R8 with a 35mm lens set at a shutter speed of 125 at f11 and set at infinity and a M8 with a 28mm lens (37mm) at the same settings as the R8 to see if the depth of field is the same. Also using the same set up but change the lens setting so that the infinity mark is set at f!!(hyperfocal distance) tosee if the depth of field is the same for both cameras. I would do it but I don't own a R8. I've been setting my M8 at the hyperfocal distance on the lens but all I get is out of focus pictures. stunsworth Posted November 8, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 8, 2007 You need to be a bit more conservative with how you set the hyperfocal distance. When I was shooting film I'd set it at 1 stop less than the marking on the lens barrel, so if I was shooting at f8, I'd use the DOF marking at f5.6. With the M8 I used two stops less, so in the earlier example I'd use f4. There is no magic about the lens markings, rather than define what's going to be totally in focus, they define what's acceptably out of focus.
