Hi all,

Does anyone know of a print size table for megapixels to print size in mm. at different dpi.

I have a D3 (7.5mp)

If i want to print at 300dpi how big would the print be and at 600dpi. and how big would 10mp be printed at 300dpi. Is there a table anywhere?

Thanks

Jason

You can print as big as you want. The DPI of the image really has nothing to do with the print size. To find out how big a image is at any given DPI setting expose the rulers in PS and open the image @ that DPI setting.

If the image is taken on a sensor that is 3000x2000 pixels, a 3/2 ratio, then when displayed at 300 DPI on your screen (in your image editing program) the image would be 10" wide X 6.666666" high (that is in landscape orientation). You can take that image and print it 20x13+ or bigger or smaller without making the actual image bigger or smaller.

Thanks for the link and advice. I am lucky enough to have the use of an Epson 9500 pro (A0+) printer at work and have printed lots of huge images, and they look fine to me.

Earlier this week, I e-mailed a photo I had taken into a local magazine for a photo competition. 30 minutes later I received a reply saying they liked the pic but wanted it in a bigger resolution as they wanted to print it wide and it was too small at 300dpi. This is where my question started. I cannot get it big enough at 300dpi without the quality being degraded. Has anyone else had this issue? I have studied this now and think that the D3 could really have done with a 10MP sensor. Let's hope the new R will have 16MP+ eh.

Thanks again, this is a GREAT forum.

PS - one of my pics is on here http://www.photographymonthly.com/Editorial.aspx?page=1043 this month. I am learning, and this forum has been a great help.
