skimmel Posted November 5, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 5, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone have experience sending M8 + lenses in to fix focus issues to Leica NJ? Specifically, what was the turnaround time? Mine have been in for 6 weeks and nothing yet! Was told it's "under evaluation" at this time.

wattsy Posted November 5, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 5, 2007 Was told it's "under evaluation" at this time. Sounds to me like Leica-speak for "We've sent someone to rummage around and see if we can find the package."
msadat Posted November 5, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 5, 2007 this is the kind of work that gets done in solms and not NJ. either way don't get frustrated as it happens a lot with leica service, i now directly send to solms and bypass NJ all together
photolandscape Posted November 5, 2007 Share #4 Posted November 5, 2007 Skimmel, I'm in the same boat you are. I am going to Arizona on 12/28/07 and need my camera, but I also have serious backfocus issues. If I sent my equipment in today, it sounds like it most likely is going to sit and gather dust at a time when I need to be shooting with it. With the release of the M8 a year ago and all the issues surrounding it, I can understand that the repair centers in NJ and in Solms are swamped, but what are they doing to improve the situation? It's nuts to have to send everything and wait six weeks and being told your camera and lenses are "under evaluation." To me, there is little doubt that they are sitting on a shelf, part of a big backlog. When I get my car fixed, I don't leave it at the garage for six weeks. Instead, I call ahead, schedule an appt., take it in at a mutually agreed upon time, get the work done, and pick it up the same day or perhaps a day or two later. Leica needs to work on this. Instead of me losing the use of my camera and lenses (which, in total, are worth about what a nice used car would cost) for many weeks, Leica needs to assess its backlog, and schedule repairs accordingly. If no one in Solms is going to look at my camera for six weeks, give me 7-10 days notice and I'll have it there on or before the due date. If I miss the date, I go to the back of the line. How hard would that be?
skimmel Posted November 6, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted November 6, 2007 I agree with the frustrations over the long delays. In fact, this is the 2nd time my M8 is in -- the 1st time, I had just backfocus problems with my 50 mm -- they fixed it and now 2 of my other lenses (which worked fine before) now backfocus. (I realize, now, that I should have sent the body and all of my lenses at the same time the first time.) Regardless, they know this is a "second visit" and I have an event coming up next week that I would really like to have the camera for. I have other equipment I can use, but this particular event is ideal for the M8. (And I can't even use my M7 because I have no lenses now!) I'm going to try again tomorrow to find the status.
