MaTiHH Posted March 23, 2023 Share #22 Posted March 23, 2023 Of course I wouldn’t recommend it for sports or anything that requires fast af. For everything else I will use my Leica lenses on my Sony bodies.

Just curious, after a year, how is your experience and final verdict regarding Sony/Leica colors and AF?

How should there be a difference when not are using the same sensor. It's the filter glass stack, which makes the difference. The 50 Summilux is pretty well usable on the Sony A7/A9/A1 series, especially the bokeh is looking nice. The reason why I did not continue using it on the Sony was the "mid-zone dip" (you can search for that on the net) and not the corner sharpness. The mid zone dip is a weakness, you also see on Leica sensors, but as people tend to keep the subject in the center (due to the centered rangefinder patch) when shooting with Leica M, it is usually not so noticeable. Of course, the Sony GM 50/1.2 is technically better in every aspect - so it's the question, if you look for a certain character or for clean perfection and if you want to carry the extra weight and size. Autofokus (with Techart adapter) and image stabilization are features, you only get on a Sony (or may be Nikon). I am using the Noctilux 50/1.0 with Techart LM-EA9 on Sony A1. It brings you a unique character that you get with no Sony lens and AF is usable. If you shoot in the dark, the image stabilization allows to use lower ISO even with Noctilux. Wider lenses (e.g. 35mm) are a different story. The WATE and some Voigtländer lenses (e.g. the Ultrons) also work well on Sony sensor filter stack but many others suffer in the corners. widi5006 Posted November 22, 2024 Share #25 Posted November 22, 2024 I use the Summicron 50 (v5) and the Summilux 50 ASPH (v1) on my Sony A1.....with only manual focus or with the newest Techart adapter. The Techart adapter works great (although not 100% of the time) and of course you do not get Sony GM lens AF speed or performance....I certainly would not expect that. But for static or very slow moving subjects it is fine. As far as the performance of these 2 M lenses goes I love them for portraits all the way to half or three-quarter portraits (meaning my main interest is mainly in the cernter 50% of the frame and then I crop). Once I do a full body portrait the performance in the mid-zone (not just the corners) certainly suffers.
