johnastovall Posted November 3, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, I just got my CV 28/3.5 (early and the Cut filter won't make it until Monday) and it is considered by many as shaprest 28mm for Leica LTM mount ever made. It's so small. This is one of the great reasons some of us love Rangefinders small and compact with great optics and in the case of the M8 a great sensor. Here's the 28/3.5 on the M8 with it's big brother the 28/1.9 Ultron next to it. Welcome, dear visitor! DavidStone Posted November 3, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 3, 2007 Well, I just got my CV 28/3.5 (early and the Cut filter won't make it until Monday) and it is considered by many as shaprest 28mm for Leica LTM mount ever made. What I especially like is the fact that it doesn't intrude at all into the finder frame - unlike some much more expensive lenses I could mention. I've had mine for just a few days and already it's becoming a fixture on the M8. And of course the optical quality is amazing. I wonder why they have been discontinued, with no replacement announced. pklein Posted November 3, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 3, 2007 I love mine. I ended up getting both the 28/3.5 and 28/1.9 CVs used. Both are well worth it. The fast one for when you need speed, and the little one for good outdoor light. As John says, it's a very sharp and contrasty lens. Here's a shot with the 28/3.5. On the original file, I can see details in the trees on the pink part of the lower canyon wall. L1001587YelCanyon-w --Peter

Here's the 28/3.5 on the M8 with it's big brother the 28/1.9 Ultron next to it. I have the Ultron and am seriously considering the CV 28/3.5 as I am finding that I do little available light work, and the 3.5 would do me just fine. All the CV lenses (I have them all save the 12mm focal length) have been great for me.
garygsandhu Posted November 3, 2007 Share #5 Posted November 3, 2007 I waited forever to get the 28 elmarit-m asph from B&H. After testing it against the CV 28 on the M8 and on Velvia 100 with an M3, I found the CV might have had a bit more vignetting wide open, but on the M8 the microcontrast and resolution was better with the CV (!). I didn't keep the elmarit.
Maggie_O Posted November 4, 2007 Share #6 Posted November 4, 2007 Oh man, I may have to get one. I had no idea the Ultron was was bloody big! It's considerably larger than its 35mm sibling. (which I adore)

pelikan1931 Posted November 4, 2007 Share #9 Posted November 4, 2007 the body is made of brass too, very solid, the optional hood might be too big, but equally well made.
cme4brain Posted November 5, 2007 Share #10 Posted November 5, 2007 Oh man, I may have to get one. I had no idea the Ultron was was bloody big! It's considerably larger than its 35mm sibling. (which I adore) I have the 28mm f/1.9 Ultron and have just today ordred from CameraQuest the CV 28mm f/3.5 Skopar. If I find that I am not using the Ultron as much as the Skopar, I will sell the Ultron. The ultron is a nice fast lens, but it is big. The body of the M8 is so diminutive compared to DSLR's, it seems for me a shame to saddle it with a large lens or a large flash- kinda defeats the purpose. The ultron will fit in my Leica neoprene case but just barely.
germanlaws Posted November 11, 2007 Share #11 Posted November 11, 2007 I´m just testing the cv 28/1.9 and I´m a little bit disapointed by the optical quality, referending to my 50mm Lux: free image hosting ▲ s4.bilder-hosting.de [url=http://www.bilder-hosting.de/show/http://www.bilder-hosting.de/show/SDB05.html In theese both fotos the sharpnes seem to be suboptimal, what do You think of it? stunsworth Posted November 11, 2007 Share #12 Posted November 11, 2007 Hi Dieter, I've been very impressed with the 28mm Ultron on my M8. I'll try and find something to illustrate that.
stunsworth Posted November 11, 2007 Share #13 Posted November 11, 2007 Ok, here's a full frame and a section at 100% picked more or less at random from my latest Ultron shots. Note the erosion on the stone of the 100% crop. No sharpening on either, and colour is straight out of the camera. Welcome, dear visitor! David It was discontinued because very few people took it seriously and so it was not selling well. That may change. Cheers, Sean
sean_reid Posted November 12, 2007 Share #17 Posted November 12, 2007 Oh man, I may have to get one. I had no idea the Ultron was was bloody big! It's considerably larger than its 35mm sibling. (which I adore) There's a bit of perspective fooling the eye in that picture. The 28 Ultron is big but not as large as it looks there. It's a bit longer than the 35 but it's really the hood that makes it seem huge. A different (vented) hood, is a good idea. Cheers, Sean
