Advertisement Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Hi stunsworth, Take a look here Car mascot, Rover?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
abrewer Posted August 20, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 20, 2006 Yes, that is the Rover ornament. Striking, isn't it? And I think it unusual for them to carry this remarkably-Nordic emblem. Perhaps someone (William? Are you listening?) can make the reasoning clear for us. Oh! Brilliantly done here, Steve. The dark background really works well for this shot. Thanks. elansprint72 Posted August 20, 2006 Share #3 Posted August 20, 2006 What a very good photo! Great technique. All Rovers carry a viking emblem, usually a front-on view of a longship in recent years, the one shown above was very common in former times. A company called Starley produced the "Rover Safety Bicycle" in 1885, this was, more or less, the design prototype of the bikes that we still use today; I think that they had the viking head even then, although someone may prove me wrong. The Rover cars (and motorcycles) were descendents of thae bikes. Cheers, Pete.
