chris_tribble Posted November 3, 2007 Author Share #21 Posted November 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does the 135 work comfortably with the M8? Do you guess the framig based on the 90mm frame? I followed Guy Mancuso's lead and had mine adapted so that it brings up the 90mm framlines. Sometimes it's tough to get the focus pin sharp, (but often this is to do with handholding anyway at this length. Another elephant shot attached. This group was about 300 meters away. Hand held again. EXPOSURE was the worst thing to get right - the shot is essentially under-exposed., but it's a memory anyway (though not National Geographic). re the assignment - the photographic bit is actually part of an evaluation / documentation of a language training programme for the Sri Lankan armed forces. Only using the M8s for this (first time I've not carried the Canons as well) and am VERY happy. Using 640 a lot in poor light. I'm getting images like the one below the elephants (course participant - 75 lux 1/180th, f2.8) with this set up. Some problems with colour because the light is dire (anti-sunlight blue filters on all the windows + neon) - finding that the Leica filters are much better than B+W in these conditions... I think I'll end up using these on all lenses in future... However, despite minor problems, the M8s WORK! and I'm only carrying a little Domke reporter satchel around with 2 bodies and 5 or 6 lenses. Has to be good. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Advertisement Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Hi chris_tribble, Take a look here M8 in the tropics - no problem with camera, but red lens buttons dropped off.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
woodyspedden Posted November 3, 2007 Share #22 Posted November 3, 2007 The west coast Leica reps attended the Guy Mancuso / Jack Flesher Yosemite workshop recently and they had a box of Leica "goodies" including about 100 red dots. They asked if anyone needed any and they were prepared to glue them in for us. So I don't think they should be hard to come by if needed Woody Spedden
DaveB Posted November 3, 2007 Share #23 Posted November 3, 2007 Does the 135 work comfortably with the M8? Do you guess the framig based on the 90mm frame? On the M8 the 135 is equivalent to the 180mm lens. You need a tripod and something to help with focusing. I have a 1.35 magnifier which helps a great deal. Lacking framelines, I kinda know in my head where the image lays between the focus patch and the 90mm framelines. Besides, that's what cropping in PS is for... Oh yeah, I fell asleep in the sauna once and my belly button fell off. Still creeps my wife out.
bobtetreault Posted November 4, 2007 Share #24 Posted November 4, 2007 Easier than finding a micro-saw blade is to hold the map pin with tweezers and use sandpaper to flatten one half. Then small drop of glue to attach to lens. Bob
chris_tribble Posted November 9, 2007 Author Share #25 Posted November 9, 2007 Back from Sri Lanka, Nice to say something positive about the Classic Camera - they have red dots in place and can let me have a couple... They also seem to have M8s at £2999 (including VAT) - might be worth ringing them if you're interested ... Thanks for all the advice...
