Hans Roggen Posted October 31, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is one of the pictures i took this morning. To my surprise there was a horizontal band through the picture showing another photo i took in september. My SD card has been formatted three or four times since then. Luckily i took enough pictures so it doesn't really matter but i have never seen this before. Does anyone know what might have caused it? Hans Welcome, dear visitor! bradreiman Posted October 31, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2007 could you see this historical artifact on the camera's lcd screen or only after processing? The first thing that comes to mind for me is post processing glitch or maybe even residual info in the buffer-no idea if that is possible. Are you on a mac with leopard? ken_tanaka Posted October 31, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 31, 2007 Wow, that's wild and actually interesting in a random fault way. It almost looks like the image was censored by a Philips v-chip. (Were these boys talking naughty secrets?) Look at the expression on the third fellow just above the "censor" stripe. His expression suggests surprise at what that the other two are saying. The dark area to the left of "Philips" extends nearly perfectly in line of the bald fellow's jaw line. Hey, you have a classic masterpiece here. Title it "Muted", print it huge, and hitch up with a New York gallery who can offer if for sale at an outrageous price. The little hedge funders will line up to buy it. No, I've never seen anything like that from my M8 or any other camera.

Hans Roggen Posted October 31, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted October 31, 2007 Well, i've been diving into it a little deeper. I'm on a Mac, running Leopard and Aperture. When selecting images for import i don't see the band but after importing it in my library it suddenly appears. Capture One also shows the band and so does Camera Raw. It's not visible on the camera though, so it seems it's only in the raw file and not in the jpg preview. The rest of the files are ok. Hans
Shootist Posted October 31, 2007 Share #9 Posted October 31, 2007 Try doing a FULL format of the card on a computer then format it in the camera. The format in camera does NOT fully format the card. It only erases the file table and resets the 2 folders on the card. So although you can't see the old images they are still on the card. Others on this forum say DON'T format on a computer. That is TOTAL BULL. Actually you might want to use a disk utility from the card manufacturer to wipe the card and re-write it back to factory specs. larry Posted October 31, 2007 Share #10 Posted October 31, 2007 From my experience, I think Ed is correct. Reformatting on the computer will create a clean card. Oddly, I've had similar things happen when reading a card on my work PC, but not on my Mac at home. Go figure... Larry
