nfield Posted October 30, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 30, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had been shooting all day when the M8 powered off. I assumed my battery was dead and put the camera away. I went home, switched the battery and downloaded the images off the card. The last image shot before the camera shut down is attached to this message. I believe now the camera shut down because of a malfunction. Have you seen this behavior before? Laki Posted October 30, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 30, 2007 is it possible that your battery was empty before the buffer/image was written completely to the card?
Shootist Posted October 30, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 30, 2007 is it possible that your battery was empty before the buffer/image was written completely to the card? That's my thought also. The last image was taken when the battery was to low to correctly write it to disk/card. Good rule of thumb is to change out the battery once you see one bar left on the M8 battery meter, or at the earliest possible time after it goes to one bar. nfield Posted October 31, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted October 31, 2007 It's quite possible the battery was dead when the camera shut down. I had a spare battery on hand, but was done shooting anyway, so didn't bother to swap it out. After returning home, I had put the battery in the charger before seeing the last frame shot, so I never looked at the charge on the battery. The camera has worked fine since then, so unless someone says otherwise I'll assume the battery simply died mid-shot. Thanks!
bayerische Posted October 31, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 31, 2007 I think you aswered your question, mate. Your battery simply died half-way. Thus your faulty image. Perhaps worth trying a good battery next time? Be ready to take on the Canon Trolls!
Shootist Posted October 31, 2007 Share #6 Posted October 31, 2007 It's quite possible the battery was dead when the camera shut down. Thanks! Da, that's what the camera does when the battery gets drained, It shuts down. Your camera didn't fail at all. It did what it was supposed to do.
