andybarton Posted August 20, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 20, 2006 Have you tried logging off and logging back onto your computer, again? What type of computer do you have - Mac or PC?
peter55 Posted August 20, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted August 20, 2006 Hi and thanks for your response. Yes I did try what you suggested. But somehow I think the scanner now has a problem. I installed it on my other (both are windows machines) computer and it worked for one scan. So of course I loaded my Leica with some nice ASA 400 B&W and shot the roll. Ran down to the store and gave them that roll and the last roll from last night. I'll drive back to Pick up the negatives in two hours. Meanwhile, when I got home after dropping off, I started to scan another image from yesterday. Woe is me. The scanner will not work any more with this second computer. It also removed the USB port device drivers from the machine! Now I remember, this morning I had to do a Windows System Recovery to get the USB dvice on the first macine to start working again. I'll try unplugging, uninstalling the software...waiting etc. I think I dameged this scanner, and all I did was unplug it from the USB port. Now I'm not certain if this is a good product. I've only had it a week.
andybarton Posted August 20, 2006 Share #4 Posted August 20, 2006 Sounds more likely to be a software conflict, from what you describe.
peter55 Posted August 20, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted August 20, 2006 Andy, I think your right as I did get it working perfectly on the second computer. So now I'm able to scan again and get back to Leica Goodness. Thanks for your suggestions and Cheers to you too Andy.
frc Posted August 20, 2006 Share #6 Posted August 20, 2006 Well Peter perhaps it comforts you to know you're not the only on that's confronted with bugs. My konica Minolta scandual IV has been giving all kinds of alarming messages during startup, just could't get it scanning. Reinstalling the driver-cd finally solved things. Computers just aren't perfect yet, not even a damn expensive power Mac G5. It's that the darkroom is such an isolated place.
peter55 Posted August 21, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted August 21, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes sir, computers and software and end users sometimes collide with each other. We just have to stick with it and continue to learn - "experienca docet" = "experience is the best teacher". So now after all, the film scanner is working on both machines. Let me tell you ...my Leica M5 & Summilux M, with the help of a film scanner are producing digital images that I prefer over the likes of my Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II. My EOS 1V is also very nice, must be that I have a taste for film images. I am a brand new (I have the D-Lux 2 since December 8, 2005) film Leica user ..2 1/2 days to be exact. I just needed an all mechanical camera, with I must admit - a built in light meter. I think Leica did get it right after all back in 1971. My M5 and I are already capable of a moderetly fast wok flow. So the built in light meter is the reason. The rest of the camera is macanical and that's what my soul required. I have a couple of Richo's KR-5 ,one since new around 1981 with 50mm f/2.2 lens. They are all mechanical 35mm film SLR's, with match needle light meeter. But instead of spending on the Pentax K mount for new lenses I decided on the M5 and one Summilux 50mm f/1.4 lens. I need to feel "at one" with my machine, then we are a team. Only an all mechanical machine does it for me. It works at my pace and allows me to "feel". I am truly a happy man now! Not all of my photography is for others, in fact a lot of it is for me. Leica goodness to you both.
