Ariston Posted October 29, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The top plate on my M6ttl has suddenly become noticeably loose after many years of fault-free operation. I recently bought a second-hand Motor M and am wondering whether the vibrations from this could be causing it to come loose. Have ony shot a couple of rolls with it so far. Has anyone had a similar experience with the Motor M and is there an easy (i.e. DIY) method to tighten the top plate or is this a job for a technician? jbfilm Posted October 29, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 29, 2007 Hello, I had a similar situation with my M7. I don't think that it is the motor's fault. It is definitely a job for a technician. I brought my camera to my dealer in Montreal, he sent it to Kindermann in Toronto. Gerry Smith, The chief technician is one of the best out there. It took three days. cost was less than $100. Good Luck.
normclarke Posted October 29, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 29, 2007 Hi, If you have the correct tools it should only take 15 min to tighten a top plate, there are only 2 fixings to address, one under the wind on and one under the rewind. I guess I was in the wrong trade as an aerospace technician and should have concentrated on cameras at these rates! Cheers, normclarke
Ariston Posted October 29, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted October 29, 2007 Thanks guys, I suspect the right tools would not be found in my limited toolbox. Think I'll choose the option to get it done professionally and hold my breath for the quote (am based in London, UK). Just hope that you're right and it has nothing to do with the Motor M, don't want to go through the same process again too soon. Thanks again. bobbyrab Posted October 29, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 29, 2007 I had the same thing with my M7, I took it up in person to Milton Keynes and it was done while I waited for no charge, although the camera was out of warranty I think they took the view that it shouldn't really happen at all, and it's a ten minute fix. Anyway, I think your motor might speed up the discovery of the problem but doubt it would be the cause.

Philippe D. Posted November 1, 2007 Share #8 Posted November 1, 2007 Thanks for that. Are you referring to these tools? They are the clamps used on M cameras. But you don't need to buy all of them. For the M6 you'll need one for the ring over the rewind level (FLB-8-A 19,0mm) maybe one for the eyepiece (FLB-9-A 22,2mm) and one for the flash syncro connector (FLB-4-A 12,7mm) and a screw driver. jhild Posted November 1, 2007 Share #9 Posted November 1, 2007 Yes, that is the whole M - set available from Micro Tools. I have bought it to work on M3 cameras in the first place but meanwhile I have used it on several other M bodies as well, M6 TTL and MP. If you are interested to look a bit inside your M this is what you need. It has saved me a lot of money already. Cheers Jo
R.Morrison Posted November 4, 2007 Share #10 Posted November 4, 2007 I once had a technician tell me that fasteners do not normally come loose except that they have been subject to vibration. Motors vibrate. I use an Abrahamsson Rapid Winder (similar to a Leicavit) though not for fears of vibration but because it is actually faster than a motor drive and is not battery-dependant.
