I've just bought the Q2 to go alongside my Q2M. Switching on the Q2 for the first time I could hear what I assume to be the OIS motor? whirring faintly away in the background, it seems to be almost continuous (even with OIS turned off) only stopping when I focus. The Q2M is silent compared to the Q2 and I'm wondering if this is normal with the Q2 or I have a faulty camera?

Thanks.

Same with my Q2 (and Q...) so perfectly normal. It's part of the lens design. When the camera is on there is a current keeping the lenses floating in the correct position. So meaning, even with OIS disabled it will still be turned on but it won't do any active stabilisation. If it wasn't turned on the lens would be clunking like it does when the camera is turned off.

Thanks Tomas, that's reassuring to know. I guess Leica changed or improved the design with the Q2M.

I've never noticed a noise like that from my Q2... and I would think the Q2M would act and sound the same. If both the Q2 and Q2M have the same settings I would think they would sound the same. I don't see the Q2 having predictive focus that tries to guess what you want before half press. I normally shoot afs not afc so is that it? I keep OIS on auto, you might double check that is the same between the two.

Haven't held a Q2M but Im assuming it also has floating lens elements. When it's turned of and you shake it, does the lens make clunking noises like normal Q/Q2s?

Hi Tomas

Yeah it does, exactly the same. I've listened again to my Q2M and there is indeed the same whirring noise as on the Q2 but it is noticeably softer (smoother if that makes sense), which is probably why I've not noticed it until I turned on the Q2 for the first time.

Anyway, time to stop listening to it and get out there and start using itย ๐Ÿ™‚
