Ozkar Posted October 27, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) While the 35/2 comparison has probably been done to death, I thought it may interest some to see how the 28/2 fares in relation to the 35's. All images were shot @ f2 in this order: 35/2 IV, 35/2 ASPH, 28/
Advertisement Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Hi Ozkar, Take a look here Bokeh 28/2 vs 35/2 ASPH vs 35/2 IV. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bayerische Posted October 27, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2007 First one!
DaveB Posted October 27, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 27, 2007 Yeah, the OOF area in the non-ASPH makes it look more 3 dimensional. I favor that. I have always thought that my ASPH and APO lenses were clearly superior. I can't always show you why, though.
pascal_meheut Posted October 27, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 27, 2007 2nd and 3rd one. The way out of focus specular light are rendered by the first one bothers me (see in the left upper corner): too much coma ? Anyway, it make the picture look unnatural for my taste. Also, some out of focus objects in the 1st one have a small halo around, for instance the left tree of the group of 3 on the right or the white rose on the left. Do not like it either. LichMD Posted October 27, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 27, 2007 I actually prefer the bokek on the Version IV, the shapes are more pleasing to the eye. I then find the 28/2.0 to be second most pleasing. my 2 cents
tjphoto Posted October 27, 2007 Share #6 Posted October 27, 2007 I think the asps clearly rule in all situations.
Ozkar Posted October 27, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted October 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) In my experience the ASPH's tend to produce very predictable bokeh that is generally pleasing / rarely offensive. The 35/2 IV, while often exceptional, has a Jekyll & Hyde personality. I agree with Pascal in relation to the way the IV deals with specular highlights. It may not be immediately obvious in the downsized JPG but you can see it pretty clearly in the 100% crop from the top left.
carstenw Posted October 27, 2007 Share #8 Posted October 27, 2007 I agree. In this set, the IV strikes out. Similar to what I sometimes found in the 35 shootout thread. One picture doesn't make a test though. Do you have more?
Ozkar Posted October 27, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted October 27, 2007 Your right Carsten, one set of images is definitely not conclusive. It wasn't my intention to carry out an all out test between the 35's. Your effort which also included the 35/1,4 ASPH was superb and as extensive as you can get. I just wanted to show how the 28/2 fared relative to the 35/2's given that I have rarely seen them compared.
pelikan1931 Posted October 27, 2007 Share #10 Posted October 27, 2007 i prefer the corrected asph highlight bokeh, don't like the disorganised pre-asph multiple donuts. two quick shots from 28 summicron, not much a bokeh test.
